Welcome to Trezor®
Your Trezor® hardware wallet is a secure device designed to store your cryptocurrencies safely and offline. Whether you're new to crypto or just starting with a hardware wallet, this guide will help you begin the process securely and smoothly.
The only official site for setting up your Trezor® device is https://trezor.io/start. Bookmark this site and avoid using unofficial sources to protect your assets.
1. Why Use a Trezor® Wallet?
- Security: Your private keys never leave the device.
- Offline protection: It’s safe from online threats like phishing, malware, and hacking.
- User control: You are the only one who can access and approve transactions.
- Multi-asset support: Manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other cryptocurrencies.
2. What You Need to Get Started

- A computer or smartphone with internet access
- USB cable to connect the device
- Time to focus — setup takes around 15–20 minutes
3. Visit Trezor.io/Start
Go to the official site: https://trezor.io/start. This is the only verified setup portal.
You’ll be asked to choose your device type, download the Trezor Suite app, and follow on-screen instructions.
4. Install Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite is the official desktop and web application for managing your device. To install:
- Download from trezor.io/start
- Select your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Install and launch the application
The app helps you manage crypto assets, receive and send funds, install firmware, and more.
5. Connect Your Trezor® Device
Plug in your device using the USB cable provided. The Trezor Suite will recognize your device and guide you through the setup.
- If your device is new, you’ll be prompted to install firmware

6. Create a New Wallet
After connecting, choose Create new wallet to begin setup:
- The device will generate a 12 or 24-word recovery seed
- Write the recovery words down on the card provided (do not store digitally)
- Confirm the seed phrase on the device screen
7. Set a PIN Code
You’ll be prompted to set a numeric PIN that will be required every time you unlock the device.

Trezor occasionally releases firmware updates that enhance security or functionality. You’ll be notified in the app when updates are available.
Always double-check that you’re using the official app before updating.
10. Recovering a Wallet
If you lose your Trezor, you can restore your wallet on a new device by selecting “Recover wallet” during setup and entering your recovery phrase.
Never enter your recovery phrase into a website or computer keyboard. It must always be typed directly into the Trezor device.
11. Security Best Practices
- Use only official cables and software
- Keep your recovery phrase offline and hidden
- Verify transaction details on your Trezor screen
- Enable passphrase protection for advanced security
- Avoid using Trezor on public or shared devices
